One hundred designers from all around the world, working as leaders in their fields of Stone, Technology, Textiles and Leather, set up their booths in Italy to present their work to buyers, press, potential collaborators and manufacturers. The latter of which also had booths set up at the fair in order to show us what they could do. For four days we showed our work to others, attended designer-led seminars on topics directly affecting our needs (such as sustainability in the supply chain - led by yours truly - international shipping, production costing, etc...).
After the fair I traveled to Padova to visit one of the exhibiting mills, this one caught my attention by installing a weaving loom in their booth so of course I had to go see their operation for myself. While the mill itself is relatively new, started only 5-6 years ago, they use mid-century or older weaving looms and traditional weaving techniques to make narrow selvedge denim with innovative fibers. Of course I had to go see this, of course.
Next post, follow me on a two-day bike tour of the beautiful marble-paved city of Verona.
