Today we launch our fourth edition garment with ecommerce site Of A Kind, hourray! This time though we did things a little differently. We want customers who order the edition to know exactly where it comes from and how it was made. Here's the rundown:
Fabric: The fabric is a heavyweight french terry made using GOTS-certified organic cotton grown right here in the great state of Texas. The cotton was then transported to a knitting mill in South Carolina where it was transformed into the french terry we used. We ordered the fabric undyed and unbleached for this edition so we could dye it ourselves. If you'd like to know more about the fabric, please visit the Spiritex website.
Dye: We worked with dye consultant, Liz Spencer, akaThe Dogwood Dyer, to dye the fabric for the pocket and sleeves using a custom blend of tea & iron which she developed in her Brooklyn studio. After trying out several colours made using locally foraged plants and flowers we settled on the subtle grey tone created by the tea & iron mix to compliment the natural undyed cotton.
Sewing: After the fabric was dyed it was transported to our trusted factory in midtown Manhattan where most of the Study collection is produced. Secretly we believe the factory is run by magic elves who work on our pieces when we're not looking, but in reality it's in the capable hands of experienced patternmakers, cutters, sewers and one very organized production manager. We're not sure what we would do without them!
And there you have it, our comfy cozy naturally-dyed-organic-cotton-made-in-America sweatshirt you can feel good about owning, available exclusively on Of A Kind (get it before it's gone!)
